Therapeutic Approach and Services
For California residents, I practice as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (#3334). I additionally hold an active license in the State of Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor #180009215. I am also Santa Cruz's only Certified Group Psychotherapist.
Services: I provide individual therapy, couples and family therapy, as well as group therapy.
Please note I am now offering services through my outpatient therapy practice Ride The Wave Recovery: Professional Clinical Counselor PC.
What I do:
I am here to offer empowerment for you to live into your authentic, joyful, present self, no matter what you may be facing right now. I believe it is possible to recover and to move beyond that which has been holding you back, keeping you stuck, or otherwise getting in your way. I believe in your innate goodness, I believe you are doing your best, and I believe you have the capacity to live the life you want to live.
Groups I Offer:
Please visit the Ride The Wave Recovery website for a complete listing and detailed description of outpatient groups offered, which includes groups run by other practitioners as well as myself.
I run the following Process Groups myself:
Women in Recovery (Mondays 4-5:30pm and Thursdays 7-8:30pm)
Emotional Sobriety (Mondays 7-8:30pm)
Radical Recovery (Wednesdays 7-8:30pm)
Together in Recovery (Thursdays 5:15-6:45pm)
Mindful Movement (Wednesdays 9am - 10am)
I also run a 20-session DBT Mindfulness & Skills Group series for adults, which meets Tuesdays from 7-8:45pm. There are two series per year, one from June-November and one from December-May.
My expertise is in working with those recovering from trauma, eating disorders, codependency, substance abuse, and process addictions. Examples of process addictions are gambling addiction, compulsive spending, chronic underearning, and compulsive sexual behavior. I additionally have expertise in group psychotherapy and have been a practitioner in group relations and group psychotherapy for a decade.
"I believe that recovery is truly possible in healing collaboration with others. I do not hold the whole truth of recovery nor the whole truth of your experience; I work in collaboration with you, as a guide and a co-creator of recovery. My expertise, training and recovery journey help me recognize that together we can do what we could never do alone."
I work on the assumption that addiction, eating disorders, and codependency are diseases of isolation and that a crucial aspect of recovery from these as well as from trauma is working towards healthful, joyous relationships with other human beings as well as an enlivened and unashamed relationship with one's self. It is from these assumptions that I work to bring clients towards their innate abilities for intimacy, joy, and freedom.
My training is in a number of specialized techniques. I am a Certified Group Psychotherapist and have facilitated over 1,000 hours of therapy groups in the last 7 years. I am highly trained in systems and relational group psychotherapy, family systems therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, object relations, and feminist therapy, and I am functionally trained in Internal Family Systems. I also incorporate somatic experiencing techniques, Gestalt techniques, spirituality, and emotionally-focused techniques. I am also an active member of the Santa Cruz Transgender Consultation Group, a professional group consisting of therapists, medical providers, and community activists to consult on cases together and build up community resources for the TGNB community.
